Avoiding & Handling Parking Lot Car Accidents

Did you know that one of the most common places car accidents occur is in parking lots? When cars are packed in a lot such as at the mall or grocery store, there is a much higher chance of an incident happening. Many times, the owner of the vehicle may not be present, which leads to a tough situation. If you are at fault, do not drive away. A much more severe punishment can come if you are caught on surveillance camera or are stopped by a customer, as this will result in a hit-and-run.

The first step is to find the owner of the car. We suggest going into the store and alerting customer service to the situation. Inform them and describe the vehicle so that they may announce it and try to find the ower. Sometimes, finding the owner is not possible, in which case you should leave a note with your basic information (phone number, name, and brief explanation). Make sure you also get their license plate number, and take a picture of the damage. If the damage is extensive, we stress that you call the police to report it and they may help you find the other driver.

When you are the victim of a situation such as this, it is even more important for you to take pictures of the damage. Take notes of what has happened, and make sure to get all of the insurance and personal information of the driver if they are present. Furthermore, you should head into the store and request surveillance footage to review which will help your case. Moreover, if there are witnesses, make sure to get a statement from them and give them your contact information.
